Sr

I have not long since wrote you from here & I hope they with
my Severall letters from Carolina are [arrived] Mr Day yr Govr
has had an Evill Eye upon me since I entered in ye service of their Lrdshps directions to
Me by Mr S[illegible]y [Popp's] letter of ye [illegible] 1 of Aprill 97 [to give
their Lordshps an account of what I should Judge proper for their know
ledge in order to his Maty [service]] The full open difference arose
upon my Enquiring into ye Managemt of the former Govr I
found them all illegal Traders Every one making their own Navall
Officers their collectors This is so, also & has made his Navall Officer the
collector & is a Trader: I according to my instructions from my
[Mrs] appointed a collector in the Room of Our l[illegible]ly d[illegible]d I omitt
all his vanity & passion: he gott by tretchery or neglect of one I employ
to copy my papers a copy of one of my letters to ye Board I speak
truth & plainer to say he has made me a close prisoner: refusing any
to come to Me. If I can out live his opposition I shall declar
the truth to the World you will know in a little by me of his
exorbitant & illegall pra[illegible]ing upon divers [Nos ] of [vessels] who have
been forcd to [touch] here for wood & watr or to stop a [illegible]r I have
wrote to my [Mr] to obtain an order from his Ma: for my discharge being
charged with writing & contriving false and dangerous papers words e[illegible]
by him secretly & maliciously wrote I humbly [refer] your Honr to ye
copy sent to ye Board by this shipping in which an abundance of
N[onsens]icall [illegible]hory his great Care & pains about me is to have me
rott in goale I pray God forgive him & send me whoever may
dis[course] upon Even Ground I know you will please to assist how &
when proper towards obtaining liberty
