  • 1 item

License issued by William Gibson, Bishop of London, permitting William Brogden to preach in the colony of Virginia. The license, dated August 8, 1735, was issued two days after Brogden’s ordination.

William Brogden was born in England in 1710. In 1712, Brogden’s father moved the family to Calvert County, Maryland. Following his ordination in England, Brogden returned to Maryland where he served as rector of All Hallows Parish until 1751 and as rector of Queen Anne Parish, currently St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church, in Prince George’s County, Maryland. There is no record of his preaching in Virginia.
