Thomas Jefferson, “Shadwell,” Albemarle County, writes to his friend John Page of “Rosewell” in Gloucester County concerning Jefferson’s hopes of marrying “Belinda” [Rebecca Burwell]. He reports that he expects to be in Williamsburg by October and that he intends to build a house in the city.
