Edmund Jenings letter to William Blathwayt(1716 May 25)

Jenings describes changes in the appearance of Williamsburg since he last visited. The town is “much inlarged [sic] and [has] a prospect for being a useful Town … The inhabitants living more decent after the English manner & in the Country plentifull [sic] & in Peace.” Jenings refers to the dispute between Auditor General [Phillip Ludwell] and Governor [Alexander Spotswood] and offers himself as a replacement for Ludwell should Blathwayt desire him. Written from Ripon Hall, York County, Virginia.
