MANN PAGE, Esq; junior, is elected a member of Congress, in the room of BENJAMIN HARRISON, Esq; whose ill state of health has prevented him serving his country any longer in that station.
JAMES MADISON, Esq; the younger, of Orange, is elected a member of the Privy Council in this State.

The year 1777 was a year of transition for the former colony of Virginia as the House of Burgesses was replaced by the "Congress" or General Assembly. Worth noting are the names of members of the same Virginia families who had previously played prominent roles in the revolutionary movement and the governance of the colony, and the emergence of James Madison in a leading role in the new government.
